POVERTY & VILLAGE APPRECIATION COURSE BY DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION

POVERTY & VILLAGE APPRECIATION COURSE

BY DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION

# Do You Know: That India’s being the 10 largest economy in the world it still has many challenges to meet, and paradoxically very basic ones.
# It has the highest infant mortality in the world.
# Maternal mortality is also a cause for concern
# Inadequate clean and running drinking water and basic health services
# Three fourths of the worlds poor are in India
# Agriculture is growing at about 2% wheat, rice production figures falling short of targets,
# GDP of an average 8.5 with inflation negates some of the other gains
# With an astronomically huge population of over a billion there are warning signs
# We need to unleash a war on poverty which is concentrated in rural areas predominantly which are home to ¾ th. of the underprivileged; some of whom survive on less than one $ a day
# Limitations in power supply, transportation services impede INDIA’S PROGRESS AND COMPETETIVENESS AS A GLOBAL PLAYER
# The Prime Minister Man Mohan Singh said that ‘India’s growth must carry along’
# The 11th Plan attempts to address these concerns but the task at hand is astronomical. Hence the need for linkages and cooperation at every level is called for. As some 300million of the country’s poor live in abject poverty and another 300 million hover precariously above the poverty line – with inadequate employment opportunities and basic amenities The basic challenge is therefore tot reach the our brethren with innovative approaches, programmes and policies that work. This calls for a collective approach of dealing with the problems in India and the world over to attempt to remove the scourge of poverty.
